National Inclusion Week

National Inclusion Week

September 14th signifies the beginning of National Inclusion Week. The theme for 2026 is ‘Build Trust, Navigate Change’, recognising that, within the workplace, inclusion requires more than intention, which, now more than ever, feels extremely relevant.

At Pride Radio, it is extremely important to ensure we create
opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Part of the ethos
of our station is to give a voice to the LGBTQ+ and wider
community, and as we run on volunteers, it is our duty to take on
volunteers from all walks of life, from first-time broadcasters to
radio icons!

As part of the charity OUT North East, we have a regular volunteer
recruitment programme, ensuring that we are regularly providing
opportunities for people to join the team.

Research from the MHFA suggests that young workers aged 18-24
are more likely to report bad mental health due to work, compared
to older colleagues, but at OUT North East, our roles vary to suit
each member of the team, and for a select few this has turned into
employment.

To create a diverse working environment, it's important to
have a diverse range of roles to cater to different interests and
needs. We now have over 40 volunteers working across different
sectors, ranging from events and festivals to history researchers.
